︎KARO

Hi I’m KARO (sometimes Caro) - an Oakland-based artist working across photography, textiles, painting, and mixed media, with a practice rooted in the figure. My work oscillates between themes of playful eroticism, containment, power, and the individual within a moribund capitalist, environment.

I am interested in the inherant social histories within materials and ways personal identity extends outward into broader social and political structures.

I also operate an ongoing conceptual nation project, The Ambulatory Free States of Obsidia.

My studio is based in Oakland, California.

︎TEACHING

My teaching centers on accessibility, experimentation, and material exploration.

For learners, I like to incorporate low-tech and approachable methods to reduce anxiety around art-making and create room for play and innovation. I’m interested in helping people engage in new ways with familiar materials that feel low-pressure and encourage curiosity over perfection.
